We are excited to announce our newest staff member, Erika Hamlet! She is the new Family & Community Liaison, working with the families of the 3-year-olds that are being supported by KC Ready 4s this year. We will share more info about Erika and her work soon. Please help us make her feel welcome!
The development of the whole child is a priority for pre-K teachers. In addition to a focus on literacy, math and science, teachers also intentionally focus on things such as helping children to identify feelings in themselves and others, and to regulate their emotions when those feelings are "big".
KC Ready 4s' Teacher Mentors have been supporting classroom teachers with tools, such as Mindful Moment activity cards, designed to teach social-emotional skills using simple and fun activities. They have also shared a book, Breathe Like a Bear; in fact, the teachers have found this resource so helpful, that many classrooms have purchased the book with their own resources!
To take it one step further, KC Ready 4s is pleased to announce that Kira Willey, author of Breathe Like a Bear, is coming to town! KC Ready 4s, in partnership with Child Care Resources Southwest Michigan Resource Center, is bringing this dynamic speaker to Kalamazoo to facilitate professional development for our community's pre-K teachers. What a culminating event for a year of hard work!
Registration for this event, being held on March 8, is being offered first to those that work in Kalamazoo County. On Wednesday, February 20th, registration will be opened to those outside of the county. Please see the flyer below for more details and how to register.
